Pro-Modeler 1/48 Convair F-102A Delta Dagger

509th FIS, 405th TFW, US Air Force, Philippines 1960

A kit from the same era as their F-105D is Monogram’s F-102A Delta Dagger, here built from the Pro-Modeler boxing. This model is for the Case X wing F-102, and the kit comes with a fully-detailed weapons bay and weighted wheels. I rescribed the raised panel lines, but other than adding a nose pitot from brass tube and wire, made no extra additions to the kit. Fit is average with the upper and lower wing joint being particularly poor. I also decided to close the canopy, while the model is clearly designed for it to be displayed open. I didn’t realise how visible the interior canopy framing was either, and should have taken greater care with that. The paint is Xtracolour ADC Grey enamel and the final finish a mix of Pollyscale Flat and Satin varnish. The kit decals were used, and although made by Scalemaster they were only average. Unfortunately I realised, after the photos had been taken, that the starboard main undercarriage actuating rod had fallen off, so it’s missing.
