Hasegawa 1/48 LTV A-7E Corsair II

VA-93 ‘Blue Blazers’, US Navy, USS Midway 1982

Pairing up with the A-7D is this Hasegawa A-7E Corsair II built shortly afterwards. Some bits of an Eduard photo-etch set were used, such as the instrument panel and avionics doors. The kit is essentially the same as the A-7D, and went together just as well (and with the same troublesome wing to fuselage joint). In this model I folded the wings and opened the canopy and the avionics doors. Weapons are from the Hasegawa ordnance sets. The finish is Halfords White Primer for the undersides and Gunze Sangyo for the grey and blue trim. An oil wash over a Johnson’s Klear clear coat was applied last. Kit decals were used, and, as usual for Hasegawa, they were fine, if a bit thick.

Update May 2013 The son of the pilot of this plane, CAG Commander Vernon, came across the webpage and very kindly wrote to me, which I am very honoured by. I am only sorry the quality of this model is not better! Many thanks to Commander Vernon and his son for providing the date this A-7E wore these markings.
